The Importance of Having an Effective Cooling System for Injection Molds

Tuesday, June 26, 2018

If you’re going to use an injection mold to create plastic parts, you need to come up with an effective cooling system to go along with it. Cooling your parts is actually one of the most important parts of the process. Here are some of the reasons why an effective cooling system is essential.

It will increase your production rate.

If you create a cooling system that takes too long to cool your parts after they have been produced, they will be stuck in limbo for longer than they must be. You can increase your production rate dramatically if you’re able to cool the parts off even just a second or two faster than normal with improvements to your cooling system. That will save you time in the long run and make your entire production process more profitable.

It will prevent parts from warping.

When plastic parts are cooling after being produced, they are extremely vulnerable. If you don’t cool them off quickly enough, they could potentially start to warp and be ruined. But when you have the right cooling system in place, the parts will cool down and harden before they’re able to take on a different shape than you intended.

It will keep parts strong once they’re finished.

In addition to warping when they aren’t cooled off quickly enough, plastic parts can also become stressed and even get to be very brittle. You will notice a difference in the stability of a part that’s cooled off right away as opposed to one that cools down more slowly. If the parts you’re producing aren’t coming out the way you intended, coming up with a better cooling system could solve your problem.
