Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM)

Monday, October 15, 2018

We use graphite electrodes to EDM shapes into steel. Electrical discharge machining (EDM) is a manufacturing process where a desired shape is obtained by using electrical discharges (sparks). Material is removed from the work piece by a series of rapidly recurring current discharges between two electrodes, separated by a dielectric liquid and subject to an electric voltage.

The first picture is a plate that required features that were manufactured using EDM. The following pictures are other graphite electrodes that were machined to use in our EDM machine.
